(North West Newspix)A Co Donegal mother-of-two has claimed that untold damage is being done to people’s health because of the poor quality of the Letterkenny water supply.Catriona McGlynn has suffered serious thyroid problems which she blames directly on the quality of water in her hometown. Her claims come as the Environmental Protection Agency continue a court case against Irish Water who have now admitted it will be 2018 to upgrade the Leterkenny water treatment plant. The pair and upgrade works are to prevent outbreaks of E.coli cryptosporidium which targets children and the elderly.Ms McGlynn, from Elmwood Downes, was so concerned about the quality of her household water that she bought herself a water distiller.Catriona is convinced that untold damage is being done to the nation’s health through a sub-standard quality of water. In the past she has suffered from thyroid problems and is convinced ithas been directly caused by the over-use of fluoride in her householdwater supply. Ms McGlynn told Donegal Daily “I have no doubt about it. There is a direct link between fluoride and thyroid issues and I have suffered from a thyroid problem which I would 100% directly attribute to the fluoride waste product our Government is putting in our drinking way.“And I think a lot of other people across Donegal are suffering from thyroid problems because of the quality of water,” she said.Catriona, who is in her late 30s, invested more than €200 in a waterdistiller and also a shower filter before the arrival of her daughter18 months ago.“It wasn’t cheap but it was a decision I made for my family and their health.”And she believes that the poor quality of water in Donegal and othercounties across Ireland is causing until damage to the nation’shealth.“People with compromised immune systems can die by drinking water withcryptosporidium in it and so it is very dangerous for people with MS,for example. “As somebody who worked with Multiple sclerosis Ireland in the past,I’m aware that Donegal has one of highest rates in Europe. Is fluoridea factor in this, I wonder,” she asked.Catriona, who is a qualified Clinical Hypno-Psychotherapist, haseducated herself about the quality of water she is putting into herbody and hopes other people will do the same. She believes that despite Government advice, people are still beingleft vulnerable to the dangers of a poor quality water supply acrossDonegal and the rest of Ireland.“The cryptosporidium parasite found in Donegal water is another issue. In order to protect us from cryptosporidium, they tell us to boil thewater but doing this concentrates the amount of fluoride, so no matterwhat you do you will be compromising your health,” she said. Although she has now tried to protect her children from the poorquality of water supply, Catriona said her son’s health is now out ofher hands.“My son is off to college in September. I won’t be able to protect hiswater supply there but this wouldn’t be a problem if our governmentcared about our health,” she said.DONEGAL WOMAN CLAIMS WATER SUPPLY IS CAUSING UNTOLD DAMAGE TO PEOPLE’S HEALTH was last modified: August 11th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Catriona McGlynndonegalIrish Waterletterkennywater supplylast_img
