first_imgFinn Harps supporters have slammed Roddy Collins for his controversial comments in which he said the League of Ireland would be better off without the Donegal side in it. Harps fans were left furious after Collins suggested they should be sacrificed for the greater good of the league.Collins called on the FAI hierarchy to make the unpopular decisions and remove some teams from the League of Ireland in order to improve the standard. He conceded Harps had a fine tradition and despite their fine start to the season doesn’t believe they can ever be big enough to truly be a beneficial entity to the League of Ireland. As you’d expect Harps fans were fuming and had their say as social media went into meltdown over the claims. One Harps fan likened Roddy Collins to the social pariah that is Katie Hopkins.Harps fanatic Nigel Hegarty told Donegal Daily, “The man is a toxin. “Simply expecting clubs to relinquish years and years of history for the sake of strengthening other clubs, and most importantly rivals clubs, is absolute madness. “I’d love to see him suggest the same to Man United or Man City fans to simply give up supporting their club and go off and support their rivals all for the better of a league.Naoise O’Fearghail said, He’s a d***head and will continue to be as long as people give him air time and attention. He is the LOI’s Katie Hopkins.Perhaps the best summary of the illogical and bizarre suggestions made by Collins was delivered by lifelong Finn Harps Rodney Dullaghan who said, “Collins record speaks for itself. He relegated Shamrock Rovers for the first and only time in their history.“He managed Dublin City and Monaghan United and put both out of senior football with his spending. “He applied for the Harps job one time and said that if he was given a million quid he would take Harps into the Champions League.“He was only in Derry a few months and nearly destroyed them, spending a load of money on average players, none of whom were retained when he was given the boot.“His son, who is an average player at best has played for 3 clubs in the LOI. Athlone, Monaghan and Derry. Roddy made him his first signing at each of those three clubs.“He isn’t playing for anyone now that his father is out of work. “The header constantly slags off the league in his newspaper column but then applies for every job going.“Thankfully most clubs have the good sense not to touch him with barge pole.Well said Rodney. When contacted for a comment regarding the Collins article Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan was unavailable. He’s presumably too busy plotting to keep Harps on track for promotion back to the top flight.FINN HARPS FANS COMPARE RODDY COLLINS TO KATIE HOPKINS was last modified: April 28th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:finn harpsnewsRoddy CollinsSportlast_img
