Arriano was arrested Sept. 10 by sheriff’s deputies responding to a Newhall woman’s pre-dawn report that someone was trying to break into her second-story condominium. A deputy spotted Arriano in the area on a bicycle, and the suspect was identified by the woman, then linked a short time later to the three earlier cases. He is suspected of breaking into the homes of the three women in January, March and June, sheriff’s officials said. In the first two cases, the women were brutally attacked, one at knifepoint, in their Canyon Country homes. The third woman awoke to find a man in her bed, but screamed and successfully fought him off. The three faced reporters last week in an emotional press conference where they thanked deputies for tracking down the suspect. The women are willing to testify against Arriano if he is ordered to stand trial, a sheriff’s investigator said. SANTA CLARITA – A man accused of raping two Santa Clarita women and attempting to rape a third is scheduled to be arraigned today on 26 felonies. Arriano is charged with eight counts of forcible rape, nine other sexual-assault counts and various counts of robbery, burglary, attempted murder and false imprisonment, Deputy District Attorney Angela Jordan said in a prepared statement. If convicted, Arriano faces multiple life sentences, prosecutors said. [email protected] (661) 257-5251160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
