In that regard, repairs are being undertaken to a number of police stations. New police stations are being considered but during the year focus will be on the completion of the Grand Bay Police Station” he said.Work on this project is said to be 65 % completed, and it is anticipated that it will be completed in the fiscal year 2011/2012.Another concern for the Government according to Mr. Skerrit is the security system at the state prison. He stated that they are working towards introducing a security system which is in tune with today’s technology.“Our points of entry and exit also need to be secured and as a result a customized border management software costing $4.6 million Canadian Bank Note is being developed. The introduction of this new border management programme will also address the issue of fraudulent travel documents and will enable the immigration officers “real time linkage” to the international security agencies thus allowing for immediate feedback on suspicious documents or individuals” he said.Government is also investing $4.9 million in a new system which will assist in validating important documents such as birth certificates and this will be implemented in the new fiscal year. This is particularly critical as last month the Dominica Police Force uncovered a passport scam and later arrested and charged three civil servants on several charges which included forging of birth certificates and other passport documents. The Melville Hall Fire Station which involves the contruction of the main building where the fire officers will be housed and another building to house equipments is 54% completed. This project will provide a significant addition to the air access project.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img
