‘Jamie will be greatly missed’ – School community pays tribute to tragic teen

first_imgTributes are being paid to the popular young Inishowen boy Jamie Doherty, who was killed in a car crash yesterday evening.Jamie, aged 14, died when the car he was driving spun out of control on a lane at Tullyally, Redcastle.His death has caused widespread shock and grief in the community, including staff and students of Moville Community School where Jamie had just finished second year. On behalf of the school, Principal Anthony Doogan has expressed his sympathies with the family and friends of the much-loved boy.Mr Doogan said: “This is a terrible tragedy for the Doherty and Havlin families, our school and our community. “We are deeply saddened by this event. Our sympathy and thoughts are with the Doherty and Havlin families and friends. “Jamie was a 2nd year student and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We have been in contact with his parents and they have requested that we all understand their need for privacy at this difficult time. “Offers of support have been pouring in and are greatly appreciated. Our school have implemented our Critical Incident Management Plan. “Psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS), HSE and Donegal ETB are supporting and advising teachers in their efforts to assist our students at this time. “Teachers have and will continue to help students to deal with the tragic event.“The school has been open to all members of the school community to support them and to offer them advice and guidance.”The Moville Community College Parents Association have shared an invitation to members to come together this evening for shared support following the tragedy.  The statement from school management said: “It is with deep regret and sadness that we learned of the death of Jamie Doherty, a 2nd Year student in Moville Community College. “As a school community we would like to reach out to all who are affected by Jamie’s death. The school (upper building) will be open tonight (Saturday 9th June) from 7 – 9 pm. “All students and their families are welcome to attend.
