Giggs to take up coaching role

first_img Often linked with the United manager’s job at some point in the future, Giggs has been taking his coaching badges and is due to attain the UEFA Pro Licence next summer. “It’s no secret that I have been taking my qualifications and I see this as the first step in my future career,” said Giggs. “I’m really looking forward to working alongside David and the team.” Having confirmed Steve Round, Chris Woods and Jimmy Lumsden were following him from Everton, concern had been expressed about the lack of United experience in David Moyes’ backroom team following his appointment as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor. Neville’s arrival at the Aon Training Complex on Thursday morning went some way to allaying those concerns. However, the decision to appoint Giggs is a masterstroke. The Welshman won a record 13th Premier League title last term and was part in all but the first two of Ferguson’s major triumphs. He will be an invaluable aid to Moyes as he learns the ropes, with the Scot due to face the media alongside skipper Nemanja Vidic on Friday afternoon. It was already established Phil Neville is to become a member of Moyes’ backroom team but now Giggs will work alongside his former team-mate, having already agreed a one-year contract extension last term. “It’s a great privilege to be appointed a player coach. I hope I will be able to bring my experience to bear, having been both a player and part of the Manchester United family for so long,” said Giggs. Cricket News Three Maidens In A Twenty20 International – Deepti Sharma Of India Creates Record

first_imgNew Delhi: In Twenty20 Internationals, bowling a maiden over is a rare feat. However, Deepti Sharma of India created a unique and historic feat in the Twenty20 International between India and South Africa at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat on Tuesday. Sharma, the offbreak bowler, ended with incredible figures of 4-3-8-3 as India won a close match by 11 runs against South Africa. The series is part of the build-up for the women’s cricket team ahead of the Women’s World T20 which will be played in Australia in February. Deepti was the star in what was a polished bowling performance from India in their defence of 131.Deepti bowled the third over of the innings and she started off with a maiden over. However, in her second over, she was brilliant by removing Tazmin Britts and Nadine de Klerk in the same over. With figures of 2-2-0-2, Deepti was taken off the attack only for her to return in grand style in the 14th over and bowl a wicket-maiden, having taken the scalp of Shabnim Ismail to leave South Africa reeling at 73/7. Deepti bowled the 19th over when South Africa were going for the attack but conceded just eight runs which did not include a single boundary. Deepti became the first Indian bowler and ninth overall to bowl three or more maidens in a Twenty20 International game. Carol Namugenyi of Uganda, Kayleen Green of Namibia, Constancia Kauripeke of Namibia, Anam Amin of Pakistan, Tasmeen Granger and Anesu Mushangwe of Zimbabwe and Margueritte Vumiliya of Rwanda are the others to have bowled three maidens. However, the only bowler in history to bowl all four maidens is Perice Mamunya of Tanzania and she achieved this record in the game against Mali women in the Twenty20 clash in Gahanga International Cricket Stadium, Kigali on June 22, 2019.Also Read | THIS player wanted indefinite break from International Cricket after World Cup T20Deepti’s efforts ensured India continued to build momentum for the World T20 after South Africa chose to bowl at Surat. (PHOTOS/File)Uganda Premier League SC Villa vs Mbarara City FC Mandela National Stadium, Namboole Wednesday, 04-09-2019 @8pmNAMBOOLE – SC Villa are far from the side that once dominated Ugandan football, winning a record 16 title in the process. In the past few years, they have gone from title contenders to fighting for places on the log.Last season, the Jogoos spent the better half of it close to the relegation zone and had to wait until match-day 29 to retain their top-flight status. After some optimism at the start of this season, it has all started to fall apart once again. On opening day, Villa lost 1-0 against newly promoted Kyetume at Namboole.Villa lost 0-1 against Kyetume on match-day one.In the aftermath of the result, fans started asking for head coach-Edward Kaziba to step down and some sections went ahead to attack the gaffer during the subsequent training sessions leading up to the Mbarara game. The situation is not expected to improve instantly as Villa do not have the physical resources to curb it.The players at Villa are those that were deemed surplus to requirements elsewhere and training are not done at a proper pitch as Villa Park is partially under demolition. With all that said, coming up against Mbarara City may in the end turn out to be a tall order for the Jogoos. The Ankole Lions are ridding high in confidence after beating Proline 3-0 on opening weekend.Despite not playing at their home in Kakyeka, it is a result that did not happen by surprise as Mbarara has been one of the best five side in the country in the last year or two.The Ankole Lions finished 5th last season and played some eye-catching football throughout the campaign. They may have lost their head coach Livingstone Mbabazi but in interim-Brian Ssenyondo, they have a youth coach who is willing to take the chance on fast, possession based and entertaining football. A brand that seems to suit the players currently at the club. The Ankole Lions will go into the game banking on star-player Paul Mucureezi. The former KCCA FC forward scored twice in the win over Proline and if he replicates such form, Villa will be in a whole lot of trouble.Match FactsThis will be the 5th meeting between the two sides ever since Mbarara made their latest return to the top tier in 2017.In the last four match-ups, SC Villa have won two, Mbarara one and the other ended in a draw. Both of Villa’s wins have come at home, including a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture last season.Villa head into the game having scored at least a goal in each of the two sides previous meetings. The other games on Wednesday-Proline FC vs Onduparaka FC @4pm-Police FC vs Bul FCComments Tags: Edward Kazibambarara city fcPaul MucureeziSC VillatopUganda Premier Leaguelast_img read more
